You’re Pregnant……….With Twins!

WAIT….WHAT?!?!?!?!?!?

Twin pregnancy announcements, twin girls, twin mom

It was no surprise to myself (or anyone else for that matter:)) that I was pregnant for the 4th time, but what no one expected was that it would not only be our 4th but also our 5th child.

Last June after finding out I was pregnant and telling my bestie, I sent Eric a cute and funny note (shown below) announcing that we were expecting again. He congratulated me/us and went about his day.  It was not a shock to us that we were expecting, and we definitely weren’t new to the parent game so life went on, until……

My 8th week of pregnancy it was time to go the doctor. For those of you who aren’t familiar with pregnancy, at this point more times then not you can see your little baby via ultrasound, so we went in to do just that and got a really pleasant surprise.

It hadn’t been the best day as we had just laid my cousin to rest. I was running really late for my appointment and wasn’t sure if I’d be seen or not. Fortunately, the ultrasound tech agreed to see me, and before putting the wand over my belly says, “let’s see how many babies are in here” (if that wasn’t foreshadowing I don’t know what was:)).  A few seconds later she announced that she was initially joking but that there were actually two babies in there.  We both smiled and looked at each other. Eric had already guessed that and mentioned that it could be possible.

Rewind back to those first few weeks of pregnancy.  I don’t think I’ve ever been pregnant “for real” prior to this pregnancy lol:)). Never did I have to run to throw up in the bathroom after drinking tea while at work or be so tired that I couldn’t keep my eyes open with any of my three pregnancies before this one. With these two, every pregnancy symptom I could think of I had it, and because of it Eric did mention that maybe it could be twins because I’d been so sick. Being who I am, I brushed him off and chalked it up to old age.

We were told to proceed with caution because anything could happen at this point (we could lose one or both of the babies), but my body cooperated.  Upon entering my 2nd trimester things were beginning to seem real……..WE ARE REALLY HAVING TWINS!

The news of having twins was too exciting to keep from family and friends so we started to tell them right away; however, since I love the element of surprise, I thought it would be a great idea to surprise social media. After already telling family and friends, this ended up being one of the hardest things in the world. They wanted to tell everyone they came in contact with.  I decided not to censor them but that I would keep it to myself.  I also thought it would be fun to keep the sex of the babies a surprise also (I was the only one who thought this would be fun but because I was carrying them my thoughts were the only ones that mattered so we didn’t:)).

What they said….

what my family and friends had to say

My mom – she was half asleep when I called to tell her, and the next day she just kept asking my step-father if I’d really called to tell her I was pregnant. She said it felt like a dream.

My children – “are you guys tricking us?” We eventually had to show them the ultrasound before they would believe us.

Big sister Essence – “we won’t need to invite any of our friends to our birthday parties. All we are going to need are our siblings”:).

My best friends – SCCCCCCCRRRRRREEEEAAAMMMMMSSSS:)!!!!!! They always wanted to hear about my appointment over and over.

My little cousin Eboni – tears:).

My Aunt Tracy – “I’m so happy!”  Since then, she has moved all the way from TX to be closer to them:).

My little sister Tish – “better you than me”….lol:).

I had a very uneventful pregnancy: no hospital stays, bed rest, or scares. Elyse and Emani (TWO GIRLS) were born full term by way of vaginal delivery.  Elyse and Emani’s birth story.

FAQ:

Are they identical?

No, they are fraternal.  And since they’ve been born we’ve learned that they are actually complete opposites; from their skin color to the shape of their heads.  Elyse is Essences’ twin and Emani is Eryn’s.

Were they conceived naturally (a very personal question but people ask it)?

Yes

Does twins run in your families?

They do in Eric’s, his younger sister actually has a set of identical twin girls.  He also has a few cousins with sets of twins.  But from what I’ve read that really doesn’t matter…..but who knows:).

Are you done (having children) yet…..lol:)?

Another very personal question, but I get it more often than not, and I always say, that’s for me to know and for you to find out (the nicest thing I’ve found to say:)).
